The Owl and The Pussy Cat

The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea In a beautiful 'red and white'(!) boat, They took some honey, and plenty of money, Wrapped up in a five pound note. The Owl looked up to the stars above, And sang to a small guitar, 'O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love, What a beautiful Pussy you are, You are, You are! What a beautiful Pussy you are!'

My allotment

Spring has finally arrived and I'm enjoying spending time at my allotment and feeling warm, hooray! These were taken about a week ago, stuff has grown a lot since then.

General view of my allotment

Stuff I'm harvesting at the moment
Chard, overwintered and growing fast now

Broccoli, with pigeon protection

Rhubarb
Three different varieties, furthest one very early

Crops on the go, not many of these this year yet
Garlic and broad beans

Arty picture of rusty metal and pebble

The business end of the allotment

My shed
Built be me entirely from scrap wood

Water butts

Compost bins
Made from old pallets tied together with baler string

And finally some weeds, or are they pretty flowers?!

Self sown primrose being allowed to stay

Celandines in the long grass nearby
and NOT allowed on the allotment.
I was recently considering the fact that I've been gardening now for nearly 30 years, both professionally and as a hobby (no wonder I'm tired?)
I feel I'd like to share my knowledge and experience somehow, but haven't worked out how yet. Any suggestions?

    1. Aaargh, I'm too busy 'doing' it now! (see below for more), perhaps I should write a book, hmm, there are plenty out there already! Thanks for your encouragement.

  2. Nina, what great photos - I bet it was tough work getting your patches established, that grass looks very set in and immovable! And how abundant it all looks!

Nina my other half does the serious gardening and lovely as he is, does't relish too much interference from me - fair do's, he does the work! But things like herbs I always have done myself, but would appreciate a heads up when to sow this, plant that, or prepare the other; I'd certainly appreciate some help with my rocky attempts at garlic growing, and things like salads. How about if every month you do a post about 'what to be doing this month' or something similar - I'm assuming you don't want to turn your entire blog into a gardening blog? Simple instructions with really good close-up photos would be enormously helpful. You would be doing a great service as well as being entertaining. Then of course there's always you-tube - some good and some not so good allotment/garden videos on there - but that may be more work than you want to be doing. How on earth do you fit in time for sailing??And running workshops? You got elastic on the end of your weeks?? Lx

    1. Hi Lynne, thanks for your encouragement. I've been thinking about your suggestions a lot this week, but just when people want advice I'm too busy out there doing it! I like the idea of a regular gardening/veggie slot, but I might take it on as a long term project. Perhaps take the photos now, do draft posts in the winter then update and publish them at appropriate times. Oh my goodness I feel tired just thinking about it!! I'll see what I can do, I really DO want to share my stuff, it's a shame to keep it all in my head.

  3. Welcome to my blog, thanks for reading it. I have just made paste papers with a couple of groups, so successful and easy to do. I feel much like you do about craft sales and have given away all my stock, so I shall never be tempted again. I love doing workshops when you get an enthusiastic group - but sometimes they are hard to get off the ground.
