Dolphin sightings

We finally had our first sail of the season. We had to get our boat from Plymouth down to Falmouth to have some work done on her. The weather has been a bit on the chilly side for sailing, but on Friday 5th the wind was in the right direction, we had the offer of help from a friend, and the forecast wasn't toooo cold! We wrapped up warm and had a fabulous sail (and I wasn't too seasick). The best bit was we had four dolphins follow us for about a quarter of an hour. I got a couple of photos and Vince got a video of them. We reported the sighting to Sea Watch and they put our sighting on their sightings page, which made me feel slightly important!

and from our pictures and description they were identified as common dolphins.

I'm getting really into my book workshop stuff at the moment, so more news on that coming up. 
I'm thinking of starting a separate blog for books, is that a good idea? Hmm, I'll think about that a bit more...

    Gosh Nina, just watched the video - was your heart in your mouth? My son Kit was joined by two dolphin when he went surfing - he lives in New Zealand - and I felt quite choked just reading his post! Hoping to see some whales next time we visit them. You look like you are having a brilliant time for your first time out this year. Lx

      Hi Lynne, your comments have made me realize that I wasn't as excited at the time as I should have been. I was feeling slightly seasick which mostly manifests as me feeling very sleepy, so I did well to get it together to take some photos! It does feel special to have seen them so close to home.

    Have watched the video now. (Didn't think I could as our broadband's too slow but it was OK.) Fabulous. I bet they chose you cos you were sailing not motoring. Loved the sound of the wind in the rigging and the wellington-booted toe. Not too keen on the white horses in the distance though. (We used to sail as a family and I know all about seasickness and fear!)We saw a whale once, off Plymouth.
